CK (Conductive keratoplasty)

Conductive keratoplasty (CK) received FDA approval on April 16, 2002.  Developed by Refractec, this procedure is indicated for the temporary reduction of farsightedness (between +0.75 to +3.25 diopters) in patient over 40.  Similar to LTK, CK steepens the central cornea by thermal/heat contraction of the peripheral cornea.  Unlike LTK, heat is applied through a radio frequency probe instead of a laser.  The procedure is performed in approximately 3 minutes per eye.  Studies suggest that CK experiences less regression in refractive effect than LTK, perhaps owing to a deeper and more uniform distribution of heat.

About NearVisionSM CK(R)

NearVision CK (Conductive Keratoplasty(R)) truly represents a significant advancement in vision improvement technology. Developed specifically for patients over 40 who are tired of their reading glasses, NearVision CK has proven to be a safe and effective alternative to laser surgery. In fact, NearVision CK is performed using the only technology approved by the FDA for improving near vision in baby boomer patients — the ViewPoint® CK System.
